Camping and Backpacking
Camping News from NewsTrove.com:
"For my mom, that was typical," said Joslin's daughter, Gerry Cook of Porterville. "She liked school. She liked learning new things."
Joslin was raised on 40 acres of orange groves off Highway 65 in Lindsay. She was one of nine children and had a happy upbringing, her daughter said.
"There were just dirt roads and my grandfather didn't have a car," Cook said. "They went to town in a buckboard and horses. That's how he took them all to the dances on Saturday night."
The family was well off enough to afford vacations in Monterey, where a grown-up Joslin later moved in search of a teaching job.
SR Diocese facing new molest suit
A 37-year-old man is suing Santa Rosa's Catholic Diocese, claiming he was molested by a now-defrocked priest during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
The lawsuit filed in Sonoma County Superior Court is the latest in a string of legal actions naming Gary Timmons, a former priest who spent four years in prison for molesting boys.
The newest plaintiff, Joseph Canada, said Timmons molested him at a youth retreat, on a camping trip and at a church rectory in Rohnert Park.
Canada was between 11 and 15 years old at the time, according to the lawsuit.
The lawsuit brought by Walnut Creek attorney Michael Meadows seeks unspecified damages.
