"Teens no longer are able to drop by the YMCA Teen Center to shoot some pool, work on the computers or play pingpong. The teen center at Chemeketa and Cottage streets NE has ended its drop-in hours, which allowed area teenagers to hang out at the center between 2:30 and 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The charge was $1 or free for YMCA members. The center continues to hold its regular classes and programs, said Kevin Couey, senior director in charge of camping and teens. Those include the recording studio, guitar lessons, piano lessons and the Hi-Y club, a leadership program that meets every Tuesday night."

"Students at West Elementary School gather on the playground beyond a security fence installed by the Jonesboro School District. The fence, which makes the campus more attractive, was one of many projects funded by a Safe Schools/Healthy Students multi-million dollar, 3-year grant which benefited four county school districts. The grant has been exhausted, and the project director has written a final report. --Sun photo by Heather Hankins Schools review progress with grant By Sherry F."

"Special to the E-E Birdwatching, or birding, is increasing in popularity in the United States and throughout the world. Perhaps because absolutely anyone can enjoy watching birds, from young children to grandparents. Daniel L. Reinking, biologist with Sutton Avian Research Center in Bartlesville, says birds attract interest because they are "literally everywhere and easily visible." "They are in close proximity to people, and unlike other kinds of critters that may be living in your yard, like rodents, which you don't see, birds are out in the open," said Reinking. "Also their variety of colors and sounds make birds interesting to people."

"DURHAM -- At the conclusion of "A.M. Mayhem," a midnight practice held at Cameron Indoor Stadium in October to kick off the Duke men's basketball season, Coach Mike Krzyzewski invited the students onto the court. Krzyzewski explained that he wanted the students to pose for a team picture -- a picture that now hangs in a corridor near the undergraduate student entrance. Recently, however, the relationship between the Cameron Crazies and the team they're crazy about hasn't been quite so picture-perfect. Following Sunday's game against Clemson, when the student section was far from full, Krzyzewski questioned how the No."

"Ladies, grab your shotguns, fishing poles and binoculars for the second annual Women in the Outdoors event May 21-22 in Hawthorn Park. The first event, staged in August 2003, was a hit with 25 women in attendance, said Phyllis Taylor, event coordinator. The goal this year is to double the attendance, she said. Another sign of the program's success in its first year in Terre Haute is a blue ribbon it captured at The National Wild Turkey Federation state banquet in January. The federation, which sponsors Women in the Outdoors, honored the Cross Roads Gobblers with Best Overall Women in the Outdoors event in Indiana."

That is no accident. As a teacher for the Leave No Trace program, which encourages wilderness visitors to leave only footprints, he instructs fellow outdoor lovers not to stand out as they hike along a trail. Bright colors could tarnish someone else's search for solitude, Pettey said. But Pettey's calm, solid voice comes naturally: It's as if the man who each year walks about 150 miles in U.S."
