MADISON, Wis. -- Wisconsin outdoor sportsmen will bear the brunt of DNR budget problems if the Department of Natural Resources makes its case.
The DNR is about to ask the legislature for a jump in deer license fees from $20 to $32. The new fee would stay constant for a minimum of 4 years.
Assembly speaker John Gard says Republican lawmakers might consider some sort of boost to the fees, but he calls the $12 jump "ridiculous."
The DNR defends the fee increase as necessary to improve services, considering the measure was shot down in the governor's 2003 budget."

"LAMPAYA, Indonesia
-
When the call to prayer echoes through the relief camp, Rusli stirs, alone in his tent in the pre-dawn gloom. As he performs the morning Islamic rites, the farmer seeks solace from God for his wife and three children, swept away in the tsunami.
"I pray they have gone to heaven," said Rusli, 39. "I hope they have gone to paradise."
A few hours later, the men of the camp gather for work. Equipped with rubber gloves, boots and bottles of disinfectant, about 200 walk slowly to the nearby paddy fields where they spend hours retrieving bodies.
