"In 1989 former WSU star Mike Utley was drafted by the Detroit Lions and earned the starting right guard position by the start of the season.
Not knowing what exactly to expect from the NFL Utley was caught off guard during a practice when a teammate took a cheap shot at him.
Apparently Utley's teammate was not familiar with the rookie.
"I turned around, punched him and knocked him out," Utley said. "Right then and there, I knew I could play in the NFL."
Mike Utley has always been a fighter.
On November 17, 1991."

"Wildflowers are wonderful; waterfalls can be awe-inspiring.
But the Columbia River Gorge has a lot more than posies and splash pools to show off, and Friends of the Columbia Gorge are tempering their annual offering of free spring hikes to brag about all the Gorge's attributes.
"The main focus is the wildflowers, and probably always will be," said Kevin Gorman, announcing the lineup of 38 public hikes that begin in March and lead up to a 14-outing extravaganza June 19-20."

"Carver Herb Rice explains mythical Native beings on his totem pole to Councillor Tom Walker during Tourism Cowichan's gala. Local lensman Neil J. Newton won the pole in a draw.
By Peter Rusland
Tourism Cowichan drafted plenty of support from local business people and politicians during Thursday's gala Web site launch in the Quw'utsun' Cultural Centre.
But some who attended the slick event were still brewing opinions about whether the year-old TC's drive to promote our many attractions has been more foam than beer.
"It depends on who's pouring," said Cobble Hill businesswoman and local Lavender Festival promoter Beth Lischeron."

The regatta showed that we are heading in the right direction. The picture this year has shown that there is more than one Ben Fouhy on the water that there is a pack of guys right behind him and chasing hard. In the 1000m race he gave it everything and there were three other paddlers right there."

"
As hot spots spread across the globe the events in Fiji have paled in comparison and the nation is still looking like a highly attractive spot for Kiwi travellers. The key is to book ahead and book before demand exceeds supply impossible as it may seem. The unique aspect to Fiji is its pure antiquity and the debate about the nation's origins."
