"Exciting things happen
through 4-H programs. Youth discover by doing. They achieve their unique
potential and gain confidence that will help guide them as adults.
The 4-H program in
Douglas County offers 20 different clubs. Volunteer leaders share their
knowledge on subjects ranging from kayaking, shooting sports, cooking,
videography, western heritage, and kite flying to the more traditional animal
and livestock clubs. Current animal clubs include horses, dogs, reptiles, guinea
pigs, rabbits, and guide-dog puppies."

"No matter where you live; no matter what your personal and professional life consists of; everyone likes to get away for a while.
Whether your passion is water activities, shopping, history, food or nature, you'll find yourself falling in love with Maryland. Visitors will find an abundance of things to do in and around historic Hagerstown.
Camping was something my family and I did several times a month during the summer when I was little. Now with children of my own, who also enjoy camping, but finding the right places at the right price is sometimes a challenge."

"The spiritual capital of Ireland for 1,500 years and the seat of both Protestant and Catholic archbishops, Armagh is the most venerated of Irish cities. St Patrick called Armagh 'my sweet hill' and built his stone church on the hill where the Anglican cathedral now stands.
The popular Armagh game, road bowls, is played only in the leafy lanes round here and in county Cork. The iron bowls weigh 28 ounces and are hurled by the players along a course of several miles in the fewest possible throws."

"Lake St. Croix Beach
Lake St. Croix Beach was one of the last Washington County river communities to develop. Unlike Afton and Lakeland, the area never attracted loggers or other commercial development. It remained a rural and farming community, part of Afton Township. As late as 1886 the town site consisted of two largish farms, bisected by the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul railroad and a settler's road from Afton to Lakeland. Not until the 1900s did the river's banks become desirable for residential and recreational development.
Investors began buying up land in the valley in the early 1900s, anticipating the tourism boom."
