Up a creek with a paddle -

"The cool, placid water of the C&O Canal off the Potomac River seemed inviting on such a hot summer day. Yet, 7-year-old Rachel Maizel sat in her small kayak and refused to paddle. As she shook her head signaling her decision not to accept suggestions, the small red helmet perched on top of her head slid over her worried brow. It seemed like maybe tears were on their way.
Kurt Braunlich hopped into the shallow water, trying to avert an inauspicious start to the whitewater slalom demonstration day that he organized on Saturday afternoon in conjunction with Darnestown-based Calleva Outdoors."
State lawmakers delay vote on whitewater parks -

"DENVER - State lawmakers delayed a vote Monday on whether
to limit the amount of water whitewater parks can lay claim to,
a measure which pits a growing tourist draw against the state's
ability to plan for future water storage.
Senate Bill 62 would mean that future water parks would only be
able to claim rights to up to 350 cubic feet of water per second.
Mountain communities and kayaking outfitters argue that the "one-size-fits-all"
approach won't work because the width and depth of rivers vary so
greatly that in some areas it wouldn't produce rapids that would
attract visitors."

Area Attractions: Wheeler
Go fishing or crabbing, or head out to the great outdoors
Once a thriving fishing village, Wheeler is still known for its crabbing and salmon fishing. Only nowadays, Wheeler is also a hot spot for eco-tours, kayaking, fine dining and antique shopping.
Wheeler is situated on Nehalem Bay, where the Nehalem River empties into the Pacific Ocean. It is an area of astounding natural beauty, with Neahkahnie Mountain in the distance as you look toward the western horizon.

The Inn is surrounded by lakes, mountains, and rivers with many nearby year-round activities."
River of Life Farm to be featured on TODAY -

"It's easy to see why Peter Greenberg, TODAYShow's travel editor chose River of Life Farm in Dora to be featured next week on the NBC morning program as part of their "Weekend Get-Away" series. Where else can one sleep in a cabin built high in the trees overlooking the beautiful North Fork River, shoot the rapids in a brightly--colored kayak and fly-fish the crystal clear waters teeming with wild rainbow trout?

My Summer Vacation by Danielle Renz: Union Grove Elementary teacher spends part of her summer on Lake Michigan -

"Danielle Renz would have a heck of topic for the traditional "What I did on my summer vacation" essay.
Of course, as a Union Grove Elementary School teacher she doesn't have to worry about being assigned the dreaded essay topic.
Renz, 35, was one of only four science teachers in the country selected to participate in this year's JASON Project expedition - the participants are called Argonauts.
The competition to be in Renz's shoes was fierce.
"It's a pretty rigorous application process," Renz said, noting it involved letters of recommendation, essays and phone interviews."
