The sales pitch all mothers fear
"This is the time to truly live. To ride the winds, to be free, to mark youth as a time of triumph. This is the time to claim a life others only dream of. This is the time to be a Marine."
Ride the winds? Be free?
As our sons and daughters struggle to decide their next step after high school - with all the uncertainty and angst involved in that - they are barraged with snappy come-ons from the U.S. military.
Moms tell me it is one of the scariest things they think about as their kids steer toward graduation.
Arsenal World - the definitive Arsenal website. Independent news and stats from footymad.net
I guess us Gooners were spoilt for good last season by the gobsmacking brilliance of so many of our performances. This Arsenal side set such an incredible standard by which everything else appears so mundane by comparison.

Tourism and Recreation (10/12/03)
In honor of its 100th anniversary, The Bulletin presents a year-long series paying homage to its past and the remarkable events and people that have shaped Central Oregon.
Every Sunday for a year, we will publish a page from The Bulletin's history of covering local and national news, starting with the first publication on record, March 27, 1903. Every fourth Sunday, the historical page will focus on a significant aspect of Central Oregon's development and will be accompanied by a page of news dedicated to that topic. Today, we focus on the tourism and recreation in the High Desert. Next month, we examine education in Central Oregon.
Nine travel world to aid local Parkinson's Institute
On Nov. 1, nine daring individuals set out from Sunnyvale on an adventure straight out of a reality-television show. But these travelers aren't competing for a cash prize; they're journeying around the world to raise money for research.
The Parkinson's Institute at 1170 Morse Ave. in Sunnyvale will be the sole beneficiary of "A Drive Around the World," a road trip raising funds for research of the neurological disease. The trek will take participants down through South America, then up through Asia by way of Australia and across the Bering Strait to Alaska before concluding in Sunnyvale next August.
