Shelbyville native stays in touch with boyhood buddies
"Dick Siefert and Bob Neuman, both 1950 Shelbyville High School graduates, still remain strong friends after 65 years. As youngsters, they loved attending movies together at one of three Shelbyville theaters: the Alhambra, the Ritz and the Strand.
For film fanatic Siefert, who still prefers the "you-are-there" experience of watching movies on the big screen, living in Los Angeles (actually San Marino) is like a child living in a candy store: so many choices and so little time. "All movies are shown in L.A.," he says, "and they are released here first."
"I'm an ardent movie fan," Siefert says. "I watch approximately 80 movies each year."

'The Wind Makes Dust,' is an eclectic anthology of historical writings spanning over four hundred years. From early European seafarers making often bloody contact with Khoikhoi at the Cape at the end of the 15th century right up to the harsh pass laws in 1899, Ben Maclennnan has assembled a fantastic array of historical characters, both rogues and saints, to tell their stories through the years.
Perhaps the back cover of the book describes it best: "an eccentric odyssey through the past."
Globe-trotter grins and bears it - DEC 9, 2003
"MEGAN McCormick is a prettier version of Ian Wright of Lonely Planet fame.
The 31-year-old New York girl is one of the hosts of Globe Trekker on Discovery Travel & Adventure Channel.
Looking very bohemian in a tie-and-dye kurta (perhaps she got it from her 'hippie mum'), McCormick exuded a girl-next-door charm during a recent interview.
Being a globe-trotter watched by millions all over the planet is no free-and-easy tour package though.
While McCormick was filming the show in Vietnam, she had to tuck in to a cooked animal's penis.
She recalled: 'The dish was called 'cock and balls'."

"Again, she laughs. "I don't know whether anyone is ever completely prepared."
Sipping on a mint mocha one chilly evening at the Lakeshore Cafe, Ochs admits she enjoys the comforts of home. "But I'm also looking forward to the experience of living as the people of Bolivia live," she said.
Ochs has traveled in Latin America, in both Guatemala and Costa Rica. "I was in a language immersion program and lived with in a home," she said.
Bolivia, she explained, occupies a fairly large area. "It is as big as California and Texas combined."
Topographically, the land mass ranges from sea level to 12,000 feet above sea level."
