That's the way you do it, money for nothing and your chicks for free -

" Quote of the Day: "AOL is like Freak Central, man. You could type in 'I like goat fisting' and you'll get back 'So do I!' 'Me too!' 'Ooh, gotta pic?'"~~Me, last night

I can now say that I've officially, as the old saying goes "been screwed, blued, and tattooed." Not at the same time, mind you, but still.

So yes, 'tis done, I got inked, and I'm ready and rarin' to go for the next one. The deed was done in Atlantic City at Lucky Lou's, which is probably as great a name for a tattoo parlor as you can get, other than like Black Cat Tats or the Wicked Garden or whatever. It ended up a veritable field trip, as I met up with Mary, Joan, and Aimee, and they all got done too. I was the first one in, though, and this is what I got...

That's Japanese for "clarity," and it's currently in solid black, about an inch high on the back of my neck. Pretty cool, huh? I mean, sure, it's not the U.S.S Constitution or a flaming 8-ball or a skeleton 69ing an Asian chick, but I like it, and I certainly don't intend for it to be my only one. Had I more money to spend I probably would have gotten another one right away, an inch or two below the first. It hurt less than I expected it to, although considering that I passed a kidney stone last year, I probably should have figured I'd be able to handle it anyway. As I've been explaining, it felt like exactly what was being done to me--a needle scratching against my skin, and once the initial pain goes away it's more of an annoyance than anything else. Once you get past the outlining there's nothing to it, I actually found myself zoning out towards the end. I can see falling asleep if you're getting something done that will take a few hours, a full back piece, for instance. As soon as I got out of the room I ran up to Mary like a kid just off a roller coaster. "That was fun, can we do it again, huh, huh, can we, can we?"

I was so stupid-excited when it was over, I don't know if it was adrenaline, relief that I finally did something I've been wanting to do for a long time, or something else, but I was totally giddy for a long while afterwards. When I got home, I had to bend my arm into questionable shapes while holding up a small mirror in front of a larger mirror in order to see it, but when I did, I couldn't help but grin at my own reflection. It's still raised and sensitive to the touch, of course, but I can't help but keep brushing my fingertips against it, tracing the lines.

I can't wait to get another one. Now all I need is to snag someone with a digi cam (I no longer have mine, in case you were wondering) so you all can see for yourselves.*

"Why'd you put it down so fast?" "Well, I thought I was looking at a tattoo mag, I didn't know it was tattoo porn!"

Afterwards we celebrated our freshly marked flesh by going to dinner at Mexico, a local restaurant that, oddly enough, does not serve kielbasa or moo goo gai pan. I had crab bisque with mushrooms and artichokes that was basically a hot steaming bowl of gastric orgasm, plus chimichangas and yellow rice. Needless to say, I made quite the puerco of myself, but it was fabulous. A great night was had by all, and hey...I got my tattoo! I can't tell you how thrilled I am about it, even if it's just a little thing that's mostly covered by my hair anyway. Who knows what I'll do next, this could be the Year of Gena Living Dangerously, maybe I'll finally get around to that bungee jumping trip I've been putting off.

Okay, maybe not. But I've already gone whitewater rafting, that should count for something.

In other less exciting news, I also did some clothes shopping. I think I'm about set as far as a summer wardrobe is concerned (that is, if you consider a pair of shorts, cropped pants, a couple pairs of jeans, some t-shirts, one skirt, two dresses and two pairs of sandals to be a "wardrobe"). I didn't buy all that at once, I should point out, my name's not John D. Motherfuckin' Rockerfeller, after all. But I did get the cropped pants and the shorts, because I intend on letting my tender white flesh see the harsh light of day at some point, hopefully with a minimum of hissing, bubbling, and smoking. I also got a cute pair of pajamas, a white fitted tank top and bottoms with the Superman insignia all over them...and did I mention that I hate buying underwear? Yeah, that needed to be bought too, both for the top and the bottom. Buying for the top isn't too bad, I'm an easy size to fit, but I'm particular when it comes to underwear. I prefer size 6, which is like medium, in hi-cuts, not bikini, not granny panty, in as non-ridiculous a pattern as possible. This should seem simple enough, and yet I'm standing there in Target for nearly ten minutes rifling through the racks trying to find what I was looking for. I finally found a 4-pack that met my requirements, except for the fact that one of the pairs is in this horrendous purple and pink snakeskin print. Ah well. I did treat myself to some "funderwear" as well, two pairs of boyshorts that are flattering to any woman who has a bit of a booty.

For those of you who aren't up on women's fashions, these are boyshorts, not the ones I bought but a similar cut...

As you can see, they are indeed dead sexy. Sheesh, here I am talking about underwear. Perhaps I should rethink these new openness thing, hmm? Well, it's not like I'm posting pictures of myself in them, God forbid. I know you all like your eyes exactly where they are, rather than melting down your cheeks.

You know, I think Wilco's Summerteeth might be one of those albums where not a single track is skipped over. I only have a few of those in the collection--The Joshua Tree and Prodigy's The Fat of the Land are two that come to mind. Despite it having tracks with names like 'Can't Stand It', 'A Shot in the Arm', 'We're Just Friends', 'I'm Always in Love', 'How to Fight Loneliness', and 'When You Wake Up Feeling Old', it's actually a really pretty, gently cheerful CD. 'Pieholden Suite' in particular makes me want to go out on a rooftop on a starry night and just slowly twirl around with my arms over my head.

That's my recommended download of the week, kids, though I think I might have shilled it already some months back. That I'm bringing it up again should impress upon you the importance that you download it and dream of starry nights yourself. Good day to all.

*Or, if I'm feeling really ambitious, I could try digging up the barely used webcam and see if I can get that working... "
