"My deepest and sincerest gratitude first goes to my dearest Nancy. She offered so much in the way of support, patience, insight, courage, cooking, cleaning, guidance, and humor. After listening to my theoretical debates and struggles throughout the studies and dissertation project, she deserves this doctorate as much as I do&emdash;so I award to Nancy M. Howard what my sister (Tina, thanks) has named a doctorate of supportology. I thank her so profoundly for her willingness to take the financial risk of my returning to school and doing this dissertation project."

AUSTRALIA: TOP DAY TRIPS FROM THE BIG CITIES -
From: NewsTrove.com
© - See article for copyright information.

"Let's face it: Australia is a big place. Planning a trip down under can be daunting, especially for the budget-conscious traveller. Humbled by the far-flung continent, most thrifty tourists give up touring Australia's natural side and stick to a city-based itinerary. But here's a hint: you don't have to trek all the way to The Outback to experience Australia's breathtaking and diverse natural wonders. Some of Oz's most spectacular outdoor experiences lie just a few hours outside of its popular cities: Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane."

Today's Blog Comments about "Whitewater Rafting" from Feedster.com.
Whitewater Rafting & Toga Party -
From: www.livejournal.com
© - See article for copyright information.

" Okay, I've been getting alot of inquiries about the next rafting trip and the Tieton Toga party so I'll dish out the details that I know so far:

Tieton River
River Classification: III - IV

The birthplace of this spectacular river lies high in the snowfields of the Goat Rocks Wilderness. During the spring and summer, the meltoff from these snowfields is retained by a large earth dam, forming Rimrock Lake.

Then, every September, the Bureau of Land Reclamation opens the flood gates of the dam, sending 2,000 CFS down the Tieton Valley. There is only one word to describe this river and that is FAST. The Tieton is the steepest river that we run, with a 600 foot drop in elevation from launch to finish.

PRICING PER RAFTER:
$70 (1-5 people)
$65 (6-13 people)
$60 (14-24 people)
$55 (25 or more people)

if you're interested in rafting and want to get a group rate let me know ASAP! I'll need your money up front. So put your money aside and stay tuned. (Plan on it being as much as $75)

We will be camping at the toga party site. MOre details to come on that.

So... if you're interested, reply to this post so I can get an idea of the havoc that will be wreaked.

Short and Sweet. That's me. :) -
From: www.livejournal.com

" Hello. Thought I was dead, didn'tcha? Sorry to disappoint. ;)

You wouldn't believe what my summer was like if I told you. Very, very busy. I'll put the most important parts down here now in a top ten list format for your reading pleasure. So as Paul Schaffer sings some corny song about summertime top tens, I give you...

THE TOP TEN THINGS I DID FROM THE LAST TIME I WROTE!

10. May: Chieko and I go home to see my parents and have a blast running around the "Scandahoovian" park, stealing sprinkler flags, and enduring my parents' bad Japanese.

9. May: Rachel and I travelled to Grand Junction, Colorado, and presented our research at the Tri-Beta Biannual Research Symposium. They really liked our presentation, and we got some great experience presenting and meeting other undergraduate researchers from all over the country and Puerto Rico. And I went whitewater rafting for the first time while there! It was AWESOME! (and fucking COLD!)

8. June: Started summer research at the Wallert-Provost lab. They gave me my first individual project. I am testing cell responses with uPA, a stimulating agonist. I'd talk more about it, but it's under wraps at the moment...which is discussed a little further down. :)

7. All Summer LONG, BAYBAY!: Went to Winnipeg a hundred thousand times to see my sweetie. In doing so, I got to hang out with a lot of WAY COOL Winnipeggers whom I now adore and am grateful to call friends. Leamber, Amber, Iain, Damien, Nako, Nancy, Chris, Terra, Kory, and so many others of you up there...thank you for being so damn cool.

6. All summer: I lived with Carla's family while working at MSUM. I call her parents Mom and Dad; they introduce me as their daughter. I love them so very much. Carla's like a sister to me, and I'm glad that we got to spend the summer together. (Now stop telling people about how I used to sleep in your bed with you, Carla. You make it sound so...dirty. :P)

5. mid-July: Big discovery in the lab. In late June, I got my first Western Blot to work, and by mid-July, I was getting good at them. I cranked out a result, showed it to the profs, and they did a double-take. I repeated the experiment, same result...and all of a sudden, we're looking at a pathway we've never thought of before. I'm working on it independently for a while now, but it looks like we might have found something HUGE. :D

4. July: Craig and I took Aiselinn and Duncan, his children, to Minot to meet my parents. The result? They got along famously. My dad especially adores Aiselinn (he misses having his little girls in the house, now that we're both grown), and I think my mom favors Duncan. Still, it was a very good trip and Craig and I hope to make it again soon.

3. August: My little sister moved to Grand Forks to go to school at UND. That's just an hour north of me. Yay! She'll be coming to see me this weekend and hang out. Erica'll probably also be making a trip with me up to Canada soon, since I've promised to show her the glories of a lower legal drinking age and the beauteous Canadian Larpers.

2. August: Moved into my first apartment. My very own place...well, sort of. :) I share it with another girl, Christina, who's a sophomore. We get along really well, and I think that it's a good arrangement for the year.

And the number one happening of the summer.......

1. July: Craig and I got engaged. :) We're getting married on August 20, 2005 in my home church in Minot. So...in a little under a year, I'll be Mrs. Jessica Coyne, married old lady extraordinaire. :)

Things that didn't fit on the list that were also awesome:

Toured UND Graduate School and absolutely fell in love with it. I think we might have a winner in a couple of years.

Spent a week in Boston presenting my research at the ASBMB/IUBMB Annual Conference. Boston was beautiful, but I was a little disappointed with my MIT recruitment and tour. Harvard was gorgeous, and every bit as intimidating and impressive as I thought it would be. Rachel and I sat in a classroom there for fifteen minutes going, "Dude. We're at Harvard." :)

Became a narrator for the Fargo Larp, with a good chance of becoming AST soon. I have hope for the game, and it'll be good experience for when Craig moves down here and we start a Werewolf game. Or at least we hope to. :)

Victoria's event for Fargo was okay, but as a visiting character (Michiko Takanawa is my Gimli PC, as I don't have a Fargo one right now), I felt REALLY uncomfortable with the Praxis monkeys and their antics. Not cool.

Many, many cool games in the Gimli Larp. Nuff said.

With that, I'm off to an Honors Apprentice Pizza Party of DOOOOM, and I'll check y'all later. Much love and besos! "

Wis. Man Said Cleared In Calif. Slayings -
From: NewsTrove.com
© - See article for copyright information.

" The sheriff's department has devoted dozens of detectives to investigating the slayings of Lindsay Cutshall, 23, and her fiance, Jason Allen, 26, who were found Aug. 18 shot to death in their sleeping bags on a remote beach. No weapon has been found. Cutshall, of Fresno, Ohio, and Allen, of Zeeland, Mich., were reported missing Aug. 16 after they failed to show up at a Christian adventure camp in Coloma, about 40 miles east of Sacramento. They had been working at the camp as whitewater rafting guides for the summer. Autopsies indicated they were killed either Aug. 16 or Aug. 17. "
