Lebak crabs, anyone? -
From: NewsTrove.com

"LEBAK, Sultan Kudarat (MindaNews) - If there is one thing people in this remote coastal town is proud of, it is no doubt their edible crabs. For how couldn't they? Isolated by some six to nine hours of travel through rough road towards the provincial capital town of Isulan town, crabs caught here have basically found their way, for instance, to Malacaqang Palace. And the country's most powerful person, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, simply loves the white and orange meat of the feisty sea creature known in the scientific world as Cancer pagurus."

Minnesota Man Is Worlds's First Astral Travel Agent -
From: NewsTrove.com

"BATTLE LAKE, Minn. (Wireless Flash) -- A travel agent in Minneapolis is a real trip himself. Jack Dunamis claims to be the world's only "astral travel agent" and helps tourists select appropriate vacation spots by reading their energy fields and then mentally transporting himself to the location they want to go, before they go. For instance, Dunamis had one client who was planning to visit the Hawaiian island of Kauai but convinced him to go to the Big Island instead "because he wouldn't have a good time because [Kauai is] where the kahunas practice black magic."

David Bear: A reflection: looking forward, looking back -
From: NewsTrove.com

"Headlines over the past 12 months have not been positive for travel. Terrorism and the security efforts taken to prevent another 9/11-type attack on the U.S. have built formidable barriers in the nation's once free and easy skyways. A half-dozen major airlines teetering on the brink of financial collapse have slashed staffing and service to the point that any disruption of weather, computer systems or employees can cause a schedule meltdown that can last for days. Being stranded without luggage is certain to spoil any trip."

Trip trip me.. (get it?? nvm..) -
From: whoorderlaksa85.blogspot.com

" The recent abseiling + rafting trip's been more than just fun... It's soo much of a new enriching experience, as well as being soooooo luxurious... Imagine staying in a 5-star hotel after all those abseiling and rafting... And the most relaxing part? I din even sweat a single bit.. =D well.. There's been sooo much fun that I simply dunno where to start from...(even though I'm not expressing it facially)... Things happening frm day 1 to day 6, like soo many crapping on the van while we're travelling, the caving and abseiling things, not to mention, the 1st time I'm gathering firewoods in the wilderness to start a REAL campfire, having ppl delivering food to u thru van to the cave where we're staying(THAT's SOOOO SHIOK LOR!), having sooo much nonsensical BS during the whitewater rafting, that little tiny commotion we had abt the hotel room(and the bathtub that is...heh)... and not to mention again, THAT BIG commotion abt the hotel dinner buffet(1 word... BAGUS!) and how the bathtub's tap literally 'flew' up into the air when we tried to switch it on.. As well as all the soccer-watching at nite and sneaking out to glass lounge for a drink...heh... Even had covert ops to 'kope' the toiletries frm the housekeeping ppl..heh... =D the R&R part was really so enjoyable I wished I had more ringgit so I can purchase the FMA alchemist pocketwatch...It's SOOO NICE LOR! A true blue collector's item... =) Anyway... My deepest condolences pours out to the victims of the tsunami... well, it's not really of my concern nor is it soooo me to be soooo concerned with the real world since my detachment frm reality into my alternate virtual world few mths back... but then... it's really hitting me frm a subtle way that life's really fragile... everytime i tried pushing myself to the limits, I never failed to get a glare on life's fragileness.. The harder I pushed, the more disappointed and deluded I'm get... It's always that way... life's never fair.. even when I've done everything in my means in further my limits... yeah.. We're just fragile in front of nature, just like ants in front of a human.. As the new yr approaches slowly and soon, I'm here at home typing this entry in my blog, not cos i'm too tired to go out(ok partly, but that's cos i din sleep and not cos i'm shagged frm the activities..), but cos i simply dun have any plans or companions... life's nv fair i guess... god in particular too.. he can be soo nice and caring at 1 pt in time and give u everything u want, love u like u had nv been loved b4, and care for u... and suddenly he'll just take everything away... yeah... perhaps the dan brown's 'da vinci code' sch of tots' infiltrating me and converting me further more... but.. i just dun want to sink into another deeper plunge pool... I feel like partying, clubbing, pubbing whatsoever till I'm all wet, drunk and high.. well, i might be deluding myself in a very common way, but at least i dun have to face the unhappiness of the world as i drown myself in the wonders of alcohol... but I nv wanted it personally... It always caused a sense of emptiness in me when the dirt's settled and I'm starting to wake up... This emptiness's swallowing everything I have... even though I unwillingly accepted it as the price for getting me into delusion... yeah... well life's nv great.. but with great friends, life will nv be the same again.. cheers to friendship!! and gosh... The desire is sooo great again... well, maybe not so... I'm seriously feeling down.. and I dun wanna let that feeling and emptiness mislead me into another quicksand... I'm been in 1 afew mths back... and I dun wanna be in the risk of getting into another... at least for awhile... I need my motivations back... yeah... well, just for once, I'll wanna extend my thanks to her... not only for being there for me for the past 1 yr, but oso for spurring me on subconsciously even though she's not doing it verbally or in action... yeah... beats making new yr resolutions... and getting to new yr resolutions? well fark them... they will nv come true no matter how hard i tried, so no pt... maybe i'll try slimming down abit... but just dun count on it...yeah.. "

End of Year meme -
From: www.livejournal.com
© - See article for copyright information.

" So I took it into my head after making that last post to go see what I was doing this time last year. Two live-journals ago. I did the end-of-year meme then, too. Time to compare.1. What did you do in 2003 that you'd never done before?Well, I have a career position with a corporation for the first time, rather than working as "somebody's assistant" or "the new whiz-kid girl Friday." That's brand new and fucking amazing.2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?As per last year, I again don't remember what my New Year's resolutions were, and thus must not have kept them. For this year: I will try to exercise just five more minutes of every day than I already do, and plan to get much more regular amounts of sleep. 7 hours a night, please! (Maybe if I write them here, I'll remember if I kept them next year!)3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My cousin Kim gave birth to Baby Jake (who will probably be called Baby Jake when he's thirty, at this rate) just last week.4. Did anyone close to you die?Grandma Jane. A dozen of my volunteers at work.5. What countries did you visit?I didn't leave the US. But I'm very well traveled in my thirteen county region now... :-)6. What would you like to have in 2005 that you lacked in 2004?Wow. The power of lists! This is what I listed last year:Some of the outward trappings of independence, and a couple of things to make my life a little easier. A technical-writing job -- the job I have is even betterA comfortable flat -- hell yeah!A Jeep to replace Sappho -- the Oldsmobile is grand (and will be better when repaired) Edain to replace Umbridge -- Glamdring is even better than EdainMore discipline in terms of creative writing -- well, I severely lack that, but it's not really in my job description anymore. :-)So, in 2005, I'd like a money management plan I can stick to, better sleeping habits, a healthier weight, and a date with the adorable boy. *nods firmly*7. What date from 2004 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?Labor Day Weekend -- Grandma died, I threw Emily's wedding shower, and then drove into and through a hurricane.8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?Very much work-related -- I nailed 7 major projects and three big accounts.9. What was your biggest failure? My total inability to save money. And the mess that nearly got me into.10. Did you suffer illness or injury?Nothing serious. 11. What was the best thing you bought? My new car! And I didn't buy it, but I chose it for myself -- my Church membership.12. Whose behavior merited celebration?Elizabeth Edwards, Lance Armstrong, my Dad.13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?Dubya, Pedro Martinez14. Where did most of your money go?Gasoline. Damn, I drive a lot! (Also, flat rental and furnishings.)15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?ROTK:EE, Emily's wedding, Becca moving to town, NEW JOB16. What song will always remind you of 2004?Moby's Porcelain.17. Compared to this time last year, are you:i. happier or sadder? - happier. By leaps and bounds and football fields.ii. thinner or fatter? - fatter, most assuredlyiii. richer or poorer? - well... I earn more money. I also spend more money. *see issues with saving*18. What do you wish you'd done more of?Same as last year: more physical exercise, more proactive behaviour in terms of politics (local and national and global), more creative writing. Also, more playtime.19. What do you wish you'd done less of?Less time planning, more time doing. Much less worrying about what's right for everybody EXCEPT me.20. How did you spend Christmas? At home with the family -- my home. And then traveling to different houses and watching movies, playing games, making dinner. La!22. Did you fall in love in 2004?Nope. And if I thought I might have, well -- my heart is a finicky creature that knows not what it wants.23. How many one-night stands?None at all.24. What was your favorite TV program?West Wing. Though Queer Eye was so good, and i do miss Trading Spaces... damn, I miss Bravo and TLC. 25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?I'm slowly learning not to hate even the people I hated last year.26. What was the best book you read?Lance Armstrong's It's Not About the Bike. Snow Falling on Cedars was also terrific. And Phillip Pullman is awesome, too. *must finish HDM trilogy this weekend*7. What was your greatest musical discovery?I rediscovered the brilliance that is Howard Shore's ability to recompose his original compositions without destroying his emotional tenuity or delicate pacing for ROTK.28. What did you want and get?A great new job, some time with friends and loved ones, a home for myself and my little ones, an awesome whitewater rafting trip. What did you want and not get?More time with Grandma Jane.30. What was your favorite film of this year?ROTK:EE. Saved was also brilliantly funny.31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?i went to a dinner theatre show with Mom; had a great time. I was 25. (This year, I'm going white water rafting on the course which will play host to the Olympic Games if NY gets the bid for 2012. Even if I'm alone with a raft of strangers because everyone I know and love is a wimp, I'm going.)32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?Oh Christ. My year was incredible; I don't know how to pick out any one realistic thing that would have made it measurably more anything.33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2003?Suits for work, jeans and sweats on the weekend. I'm finally accustomed to wearing make-up every day.34. What kept you sane?Year to year, this is still the same: Determination. Truly, I learned how to pace myself through deadline situations, and discovered what can be left to drift and what needs my total attention. I'm not sure if I am sane by any real standards, but that has kept me healthy and conscious.35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?Allison Janney. Alan Rickman. John Kerry in a "please, please be my President" sort of way.36. What political issue stirred you the most? The presidential election. Locally, the water issues.37. Who did you miss?Nana - she spent half the year on disaster relief. And Grandma Jane. 38. Who was the best new person you met?New friend Janine -- through a work relationship. 39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2004.Pride goeth before a Fall -- and comes back after it.40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.Dawn will turn to silver glass A light on the water All souls passI'm still mesmerized by Into the West. Moreso than by anything else I've heard this year. 2004 In Review -
From: zeku.blogspot.com

"

I have to say, 2004 has sucked far less than any year in recent memory. Definitely the best year I've had this millenium. (2000 was a better year, but technically that was the previous millenium -- and if you think otherwise, you don't know how to count).

I would even go so far as to say that 2004 was. . .well, a good year. Huh. Who'd have thunk it?

Highlights:

Got to know Kayrin. Not as well as I'd have liked to, true, but I'm a Kayrin Addict, so let us face it -- nothing would be enough to satisfy me.

Switched jobs from the worst one I've ever had, to the best, and proceeded to kick ass at it. I'm awesome.

Went whitewater rafting again.

Did a lot more biking than last year.

Saw so many zombie movies and talked so much about zombies, that even I have started to get sick of me.

Built a new computer. Yay!

Started playing serious poker with serious players. (Lost lots of money doing same and wasn't bothered by it). Also, got back into playing chess with Jahndo, and played some Scrabble with Kayrin.

Bought Oberon, who (and I hope it doesn't make me a bad pet owner to say this) is a way better mannered ferret than Couch-Wrecker Mezoez or Sickly Fibi the Vomit Queen.

Expanded my music collection in wonderful ways.

Got giddy-happy-drunk at home with Maralel and sat up laughing and watching the Sci-Fi Channel.

Lowlights:

Lost control of my car in icy conditions on highway 5 and hit a guard rail, wrecking up the back end.

Lost two friends to moving away, one of whom I've been bad about staying in touch with, and one of whom has been bad about staying in touch with me.

Got sick way too many times, including the Nightmarish Respiratory Infection From Hell, which I didn't go to the doctor for until the 8th day because I thought it was a virus.

Made absolutely no progress in the romance department, and fell in love with someone that I already knew wasn't interested.

Got throw-up-in-the-restroom-drunk at a German Restaurant after eating a meter-long bratwurst.
