Performed to lyrics by the Greek homoerotic poet Sappho, arias by Handel and an original song by University of Michigan composer Evan Chambers, PSDC/Solos is a collection of solo dance performances by the Peter Sparling Dance Company. In the tradition of many modern dance greats, Sparling and his eight dancers will demonstrate how the human body can create vivid portrayals of the human condition. Chambers' work, the jubilant "The End of Shame," is a portrait of a gay man struggling in a world that both celebrates and condemns him. Performance Network, 120 E. "Kathleen Jamie: poetry "in conversation with the natural world."
Kathleen Jamie raises her binoculars and fixes them on a line of birds gliding to a stop on the flat, silvered waters of the Eden Estuary. They land in formation, soundless across the sun-bleached Fife sandflats. "Eider ducks," she says and smiles. The binoculars are new, and powerful, heavy in the hand. Jamie had them with her the previous day on a trip to the Isle of May where she spent hours observing the seabirds that crowd the steeply rising volcanic plug at the mouth of the Firth of Forth."
"Why the senator from Arizona believes he can be the next Republican nominee for President.
Watched closely by a North Vietnamese guard, a dirty, feeble-looking young man on crutches, carrying a slop bucket, inched forward in slow, painful steps, and then, with a huge effort, hoisted the bucket, emptying it into an open, fetid trough. As cameras whirred, the white-haired John McCain, standing a few feet away, regarded this portrayal of his younger self intently."
"With her bachelor's degree from Princeton University, a Ph.D. from Duke University, and a better-than-passing familiarity with the yeast genome, Amy Gladfelter probably could have written her own ticket. She could have landed a postdoctoral position in a top researcher's laboratory in Boston or Palo Alto or somewhere in between. But in a move that baffled her mentors and colleagues alike, she chose Switzerland, instead.
Gladfelter, originally from Florida, has spent the last four years working as a postdoc at the University of Basel. She knows that leaving the U.S. academic sector was a risky move."
No matter what type of whitewater kayaking you're looking into starting, make sure that you're prepared for what you'll be doing. Since whitewater kayaking is an extreme form of kayaking, you need to be sure that you're following all of the safety advice, and that you have all of the necessary kayaking equipment.Whitewater kayaking is kayaking taken to an extreme. This is basically the combination of whitewater rafting, except that you are in a kayak instead of a raft. This sport has been gaining popularity in recent years, and has even been included in the Summer Olympics of 2004.
Today was probably one of the most amazing and fun filled days of my life. Ben s dad and brother came and picked me up at and we started our little road trip up to Mountain City, Ga. Took the normal of 2 hours and we tried out a new little back-cut. Got there and he was seriously the first thing we saw. It was so awesome getting just to give him a long-awaited 3 week hug. My mom made him some chocolate chip cookies and he was all over them. We took a campus tour and it was gorgeous apparently Ben and Nick look identical to all the people up there. Maybe its cuz they re brothers??? So anyways, we went to this cute breakfast place and it was delicious. After Ben had decided that he wanted to take us whitewater rafting WOOHOO!!! The only problems were that we didn t have a specific location and we were a tad later than the setoff times plus the fact that the directions people give up there suck. Basically, we crossed over into South Carolina and back twice. Then we gave up and were going to go do kayaking and stopped by a park. It was right on the ChattoogaRiver. We also were considereing the Nanahala or Ocoee rivers It was seriously sooo awesome. We walked all the way down to the edge and there was this huge mound of boulders right where a Class V rapid was. It was fun watching people go down it and spill into the water J. Then the four of us got into the freezing water for a little swim. And my stud decided he could swim across the current to the other side, and of course he did! His dad barely made it as well and it was fun all around. Despite getting kinda sunburned, we all were quite chipper. So it was definitely time for dinner, and we headed past the camp and towards North Carolina. We basically conquered 3 states in one afternoon. Headed into Franklin, changed from the wet clothes, and then looked for food. We stopped in a bar that served complimentary beer because they cant charge Franklin is a dry county J For dinner, we headed back to the state line for a steakhouse and passed a carnival/Atlanta style Dave and Busters. The food was incredible and we got to all act like kids for a bit. We did some go-karts, arcade games, and the best yet of LAZER TAG!!! At first it was Ben and I vs. his dad/bro. Needless to say, we re a great team J We definitely won then this group of 5 teenagers signed up and the four of us (Team Finally) destroyed them, and the same for the 3rd game. I was the secret weapon and was the top scorer for all the games it was incredible fun but was already like 10:30 so we dropped Ben back at camp and then we set out for the 2 hour drive home .Todays mileage was about 300 give or take a few wow but it was all definitely worth it Ben actually showed me a different side of him today and I like it, I liked it a lot J
So that was how it went. I m completely exhausted and hitting the bed now. Got bball stuff on sat and sun On our next trip, we are definitely doing a whitewater adventure plus his mom will be joining us! I'll be putting picture of the rafting up soon...
Yes so that s how it goes mates! I might be going up on Friday alone because he doesn t want his parents up there and wants me to come hang out with all the counselors at the bar and then possibly stay at a cheap hotel up there for his night off who knows, but today was fabulous and I definitely heart my British family!
What a trooper! Can't wait til you come home for good at the end of July. I miss you more than imaginable. Benjamin, you are soooo special to my family and I and we care a lot about you. Get Er Done...Go-Kart/Lazer Tag victors! Catcha on the flipside:) ~I have HOPE in you~lol
