"THE UK's top sailing teams made a big splash in the Royal Victoria Docks as they battled it out for Britain's 2004 Royal Thames Carmella Cup.
Twelve teams of world, national and international champions descended on London's Boat Show last weekend (January 10 and 11).
The teams raced on Saturday to determine who went in the Gold, Silver and Bronze leagues on Sunday.
The battering wind almost put paid to Sunday's schedule, but the teams stood up to the elements to provide some exhilarating racing."

"Then, another gale, blowing westerly, again drove them far out
to sea. After 19 days, the wind went east, but fell to the lightest
breeze. Rain with the gale gave them something to drink, but they
were reduced to eating the rats inhabiting the ship's bilges,
"A well grown rat was sold for sixteen shillings as a market
rate. Nay, before the voyage did end (as I was credibly inform'd)
a woman great with child offered twenty shillings for a rat, which
the proprietor refusing, the woman died…Many sorrowful days
and sad nights we spun out in this manner, till the blessed feast
of Christmas came upon us."

Aircraft carrier for internet sale, only three owners -
From: www.flysouth.co.za

"For the
man who has (almost) everything it was a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity.
Tired of
corporate jets, ocean-going yachts and seafront properties
in Barbados? Then what about your very own aircraft carrier?
Visitors
to the internet auction site Ebay were taken aback over the
New Year by the offer for sale of the vessel formerly known
as HMS Vengeance. The 16,000-ton carrier, which has had only
three careful owners, was placed on the website by an unknown
broker just after Christmas.
Bidding
was brisk as boys in search of the ultimate toy let their
imaginations soar."
