Pyeongyang is warning that it may stop the Mount Geumgang apartheid tours because, despite being subsidized by Seoul, they're becoming less and less popular.

Pyongyang Threatens to Halt Mt. Geumgang Project

This is taken, unsurprisingly, as a call for Seoul to cough up more cash:

A government official in Seoul interpreted the North's statement as Pyongyang s call for the South s government to financially support the faltering tourism program. He said the North's warning is in line with the keynote speech its chief delegate to the ministerial talks made on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Jeju Island, which also wants more tourists, is giving them good reasons to come:

....Among the new attractions being promoted are windsurfing, paragliding, inline marathon, tours of sacred places, cave exploration, birdlife exploration, scuba diving, clam digging, horseback riding and visitations to local tangerine farms.

It might behoove Pyeongyang to note the biggest advantage Jeju has over Mount Geumgang - you can meet the people who live there.

Pour Sarah. Tous mes id aux

Nina the Malay girl
Malaysia. Kuala Lumpur. 28 degrees. Delicious Malaysian cuisine of multiple colours, aromas of spices, from different ethnic origins. The multi-culturalness of Malaysia, the colonial past, the harmonious racial presence, the flora and fauna, the islands, the tropical fish. The cool evenings when we could hang out at the local food court in our neighbourhood for Hainanese chicken rice, for satay, for the tariks, for chicken beriyani and roti paratha with friends and family under the broad sky and the stars. Smiley Asian children playing hand made toys with boxes, sticks and marbles. The children of pre-computer, pre-skateboards, pre-MTV era. Pre-Tamagotchi. I love the traditional Malay omni-tolerance la my grandma (on my father's side). I also love the sound of gamelan. The ideal place would have men and women dancing joget without any care in the world.

Nina the Humanitarian
Pure generosity at a higher level, beyond wealth, beyond money, beyond worldly ambitions, simply because. Where kindness is not questioned. Where smiles are true gifts which enlightened others and most deeply self-servicing. Where children are God gifts. Where children are hyper active inquisitive creatures who thrives on cuddles and kisses. With kind people who builds schools for the poor and hospitals for the sick. Those who give their time to others inneed just to listen to them without judgement, without prejudice. Everyone in the place also serve at least 2 years of their lives in one of the UN's NGOs along with the Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Bill Gates.

Nina the Egalitarian
Where women are truly equal (not in the clich way) to men in the society. Where your origin, looks and shape means absolutely nothing unless you are capable of demeaning your own existence. A place where people are not presumptious about one another and not too quick to put anyone in a box and stick a label on it. A place where everyone has an opportunity to change, every minute of the day and reinvent themselves. Where the past in all its glory and defeat are merely bygones.

Nina the Sporty Chick
A place where I can scuba dive, ski, go for my Thai-Bo classes and play tennis, all rather easily without taking a plane, get stuck in traffic or having to drive longer than 2 hours. A place to scuba dive with the visibility of the Red Sea and richness of the great barrier reef. A place to ski without the snobby people of St. Maurice. A nice Thai-BO instructor not some man with over worked muscles and who fancies himself in the mirror. Exactly the same standard of tennis hall as the Queen's Club in Barons Court in London where Tim Henmann practises.

Nina the Artist
Where art is truly incidental and a big part of daily life. Where Nina also has spare time to paint. Where people are interested in the art of batik painting, kilim weaving, eager to understand the difference between the sumak and jijim, the cubism period of Picasso and Braque and their influences on Matisse, where Renaissance painters are challenged by the likes of Andy Warhols and Damian Hirst. Where Jeannette Wintersen meets Kazuo Ishuguro on the relaunch of the book of Ramayana. A place where Tolstoy would also be happy. Where Mozart would willingly and amazingly perform in a concert with Robbie Williams and the Rat Pack.

Nina the Knowledge Hungry Girl
Where I can speak 5 languages fluently and would have the time to learn Sanscrete. Where everyone had travelled the world. Where everybody understands religious ideologists including the differences between Shinto and Sikhism. Where women spend their extra time painting or playing a musical instrument and men are well-versed on topics of world cuisine and hormonal related psychology. Milan Kundera would also reside in the same place.

Nina the Cosmopolitan Girl
Where I can have friends from all walks of life, professions and from all around the world. Where I can go to different weddings, baptism, funerals, in different religious temples and places of worships. Where there are restaurants serving food from every single nation in the world. Where everyone is opened minded to eating Baba Ganoush for lunch and Shabu Shabu for dinner.

Nina the Everlasting Natural Woman
A place where there are lots of beautiful handbags and shoes. And also a Tiffany. And a nice hair dresser. Oh yes, a place with a beautiful relaxing SPA with rain water treatments and hot stones massage with scented aroma therapeutic candles too. Rule of Admission to the SPA (which does not apply to me): Strictly beautiful looking people so that I can relax properly. In the ideal place of Nina the Everlasting Natural Woman, Nina would also have stacks of cash in her beautiful Anja Hindmarch's beach handbag.

Nina the Ambitious
Where everyone strives to be the best at what they do. Where everyone strives to be better than they are. Where Nina runs her very own licensing company with 50 people, a restaurant and also a florist which specialises in exotic flowers. A place where everyone to be well read, to appreciate food, to dance, to value friendship, to value time and to genuinely laugh from their hearts. Where people forgive each other and can forgive themselves.

Nina the Businesswoman
A place where women are not labelled as unfeminine when they are successful. A place where you can be very feminine (meaning with husband and children) and be the CEO of a multimillion corporation. Where men celebrate the success of women just as nicely as they celebrate their own success. A place where having big boobs on long legs are no more an asset than big brains. A place where people take proper lunch breaks. A place where the people can also appreciate and be well versed on other topics apart from money and professional success. A place where if you stay beyond 7.30pm you are probably a bad time manager or that the company should be employing more people. No more modern corporate slavery. A place where all work and no family = failure. A place where there are also male secretaries and HR managers. A place where the accountants are jovial and the MD never worked at McKinsey or have a PHD, but well equipped with common sense and humour. A place where entreprenuers are celebrated and not criticised. A place where academic excellence without any social competence have no standing. A place where negativity amongst employees are banned. A place where political gossip mongers and back stabbers are fired immediately.

Nina the Homemaker
A place where I can have a huge kitchen with natural skylight, a conservatory for my orchid garden and enough compound to plant my own vegetables in my back garden. A place where my beautiful children (Maya Grace (girl) and mil (boy) can run around amongst 10 different species of butterflies and roll around on the carpet like soft green grass. A place where my husband and I can sit in our very own jacuzzi reading the latest books of Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Hello magazine. A place where the local supermarket has all the ingredients for Asian, African, Australian and French cuisines. A place where there is enough space for children to run around. A place where there are no uneducated time wasters in the vicinity. A place where emotional decrepits and fuckwits die in winter, spring, summer and autumn. A place where the schools encourage multi-racial community to have better understanding of each other. A place where all my lovely friends are within 5 minutes walking distance so that we can have our kids joint birthday parties and baby sit each other's kids, and before we have children, I can go to the anti-natal classes with my other girlfriends whom are also pregnant at the same time.

Nina the Dreamer
No more war. No more President Bush, Schr der, Blair, Berlusconi and not even the history of them or Hitler, Mao or the Pol Pot regime. A place without any religion. Where people are kind and generous. 22 to 28 degrees all year around. A place where there is a waterfall, a river, a lake, a large forest, a city like New York, where the sell beautiful handbags and shoes for really low prices, where there is an excellent Flamenco school with beautiful people, mountains, on an island like Bora Bora with clear blue water, where people are friendly like the people of Bali. The ideal place where Nina could live all her ideals.

International Ops -

"As international operating environments go, Southeast Asia is one of the easiest and most straightforward. Once south of Hong Kong there are seldom noise or slot restrictions to worry about. In addition, operating costs are lower than in north Asia, China or the European Union (EU), landing and overflight permits can usually be secured in a few days, customs and immigration are seldom problematic and there's usually good flexibility in terms of changing flightplans. The challenges of operating to Southeast Asia are primarily in getting to the region."

"School districts around Central Ohio are cringing over the implementation of pay-to-play sports or the expectation that such charges soon will be a reality. Districts, facing difficulties that come with increasing costs that are not covered by tax revenues, are examining everything. Schools have a legal obligation to meet requirements such as the federal No Child Left Behind Act, but are not required to provide sports programs free of charge. So sports and other extracurricular activities come under the cuts that districts make, and the burden falls to families to pay for their kids to stay active in school."

Deep sea diver sends Joan round the bends -

"Every time Mark Ellyatt prepares for a record-breaking deep sea dive, he is not the only one who has to take a deep breath. Half a world away, his mother Joan sits anxiously in her Edgware home and hopes that her son makes it through one of the world's most fascinating, but potentially lethal, sports. "I get so nervous," she said. "The others always tease me, but he is my youngest, and it's quite dangerous, what he does. On his most recent dive, he had the help of 12 support divers and 30 gas tanks. It took him 12 minutes to get down and six-and-a-half hours to get back up. Divers who come up too quickly can suffer decompression."
