" Everything you never wanted to know about me

1) When's your birthday?: June 21, 1982
2) Where do you live?: Snohomish, WA. Hopefully somewhere else soon.
3) Have you visited all 50 states?: Nope... I think I've visited twenty-three or so?
4) Have you ever traveled abroad?: Nope.
5) Do you like to travel?: Yep, I love it!
6) Describe a funny/crazy/freaky experience you had while traveling.: Hmm. Some scary guy in Mexico sang to me. That can fall into the freaky category, as I don't like being sung to nine times out of ten.
7) What's your favorite animal?: Flamingo.
8) Do you have a pet?: Three cats. Well, they're not my pets but I live with them.
9) Do you think hunting is wrong?: Nah.
10) Describe a funny/crazy/freaky experience you had with animals.: I don't like these funny/crazy/freaky questions. But rest assured, I've had no freaky experience with an animal.
11) So what school do you go to?: I all done with school for now.
12) Are you smart?: I'm think I am. But then again, I think everyone believes they're smart but obviously some of us are wrong.
13) What are your average grades?: I graduated with an A or B average, I don't really remember.
14) What class are you?: I was 2000.
15) Do you like your school?: I liked it well enough. I wasn't sorry at all to be done with it, but I didn't mind going.
16) True or false: There are some things you just can't learn in school. True.
17) Describe a funny/crazy/freaky experience you had at school. Man alive, make it stop!
18) How often do you brush your teeth?: Two or three times a day.
19) What's your favorite flower?: I like any bell shaped flower.
20) How about your favorite book?: Songs My Mother Taught Me, A Tree Grows In Brooklyn, Harry Potter, Where is Joe Merchant?, Catcher In The Rye... I have lots of favorites.
21) TV show?: The Simpsons!
22) Sport?: Hockey! I don't like watching it on TV though, just going to games.
23) Homemade meal?: Fettucini Alfredo.
24) About how long are you on the Internet per day?: It depends on the day.
25) Do you get along with your family?: Yeah, I get along with my dad and my sister really well.
26) Would you do anything just to get out of your house for one day?: Not anything, but I hate sitting at home.
27) Are there days when you'd rather be at school than at home?: No, I don't believe there was ever a day like that.
28) Are your parents divorced?: They're working on it >:o\
29) If so, for how long?: --
30) Is family life chaotic for you?: Not chaotic, but this isn't the most calm it's ever been.
31) Would you rather bungee-jump or fight with your parents?: Fight with my parents... less likely to result in my death. Or at least fighting with my mom... I really don't like fighting with my dad.
32) Would you bungee-jump ever?: No way, Jose.
33) Are you a risk-taker?: Not really.
34) Would you skydive?: Nope.
35) Scuba dive?: Sure, why not.
36) Dive off the high dive?: Yep, I used to like diving.
37) Dive into a pool of Jell-O?: Noooo. I'd sink, and never see the light of day again!
38) Would you ever skinny dip?: Yeah.
39) Streak?: Not in a million years.
40) Go to a nudist beach?: Nope, never.
41) If you answered "no" to number 40, why not?: Because if I did, large amounts of people would see me with no clothes on. My policy is, "One person at a time!"
42) But I'm assuming that you would go to a "regular" beach, right?: Yes. Does anyone else get the impression that the survey writer thinks people who wouldn't go to a nudist beach are lesser people? Hippy.
43) How often do you go to the beach?: A few times a year.
44) Do you ever work out like crazy before you go to the beach in hope of getting a good body to show off at the beach?: I don't go to the beach like that...
45) Describe a funny/crazy/freaky experience you've had while at the beach.: Make it stop!!!
46) Given the chance, would you live at the beach?: Sure.
47) Have you ever surfed?: No.
48) Have you ever body-surfed?: Nope. Well, I don't actually know what body surfing is. But I assume it's not the same thing as boogie boarding. I have boogie boarded.
49) Have you ever been at the beach in the middle of a rainstorm?: Maybe...
50) Have you ever been stuck anywhere in the middle of a rainstorm?: I live in WA, of course I have.
51) Suppose it's sprinkling outside. Would you typically use an umbrella or wear a hat? Or neither?: Umbrella. I rarely leave home without it.
52) Studies show that your chances of being struck by lightning are tripled if you are holding an umbrella in the middle of a thunderstorm. Would you still use an umbrella anyway?: Yes. Studies have shown that if I don't use an umbrella, the rest of the day is a bad hair day. I'll take my chances with the umbrella.
53) Do you know anyone who's been struck by lightning?: No. I know someone who was almost struck by lightening though.
54) Do you know anyone who has died? Were you close to this person? (or people)?: Yes.
55) Did you cry?: Yeah.
56) Do you tell your loved ones "I love you" on a daily basis?: My immediate family, pretty much.
57) Have you ever loved someone so much it's made you cry?: No.
58) Have you ever fallen in love with someone else?: Other than myself? What? Anyway, if you leave the "else" off there, I understand the question, and no.
59) Have you experienced "true love"?: No.
60) Do you believe in love at first sight?: That's not called love...
61) True or false: There's somebody out there for everybody.: Probably about 40 somebodies.
62) Do you go through partners quickly?: Nah.
63) What do you look for in a boyfriend/girlfriend?: Someone who isn't an ass-monkey and is fun to be around.
64) Would you go out with someone who was drop-dead gorgeous but absolutely stupid?: Not a chance!
65) Do you go out with people just for their looks alone?: Nope.
66) Do you undress people with your thoughts?: Haha, no?
67) What are your thoughts about teen pregnancy?: I think it's sad. When I think of how I was as a teenager, I'm so glad I wasn't inflicting that on anyone who looked up to me as some all knowing God-like being. I don't think anyone is really their best self as a teenager and it's really really hard to provide your kids with stability and positive experiences when you're just starting to get your own life figured out. Not to mention the financial side of it, which isn't usually the best during your teen years. And the percentage of fathers who stick around after getting their teenage girlfriend pregnant is none too high. While the people might proclaim, "My kid don't need no daddy!" I disagree...
68) True or false: Premarital sex is wrong: Probably, and I think if people can wait til marriage that's great, but it's not so much my cup of chowder.
69) True or false: You should only have sex with someone when you're truly in love: Different strokes...
70) Given the chance, would you be willing to have a one-night stand with someone?: Nope.
71) Do you think you would get a thrill out of going to a club, having a one-night stand with someone, then wake up the next morning with a total hangover and not remember what you did last night, and to find that the person that was with you is nowhere to be seen, and you find 50 missing from your wallet?: Nooo. I wouldn't even like the going out to the club part, let alone the rest of that disease ridden mess.
72) Do you want to have a big, spectacular wedding with everyone you know or a small, traditional, get-together-with-family-and-close-friends wedding?: I myself happen to hate weddings, I think they're super boring. But I guess it'd depend on what my husband to be wanted.
73) Do you plan on having kids?: Not right now!
74) If you answered "yes" to number 73, how many are you planning to have?: I just think of the stretch marks! I'd probably be happy with one but it would depend on what my husband wanted.
75) Are you more interested in having a conformative, all-American, white-collared job, married, living in a suburban home, a dog, and 2.3 kids, or more interested in living a non-traditional, action-packed life?: A combination of the two.
76) What's your favorite smell?: Coconut. It smells like summer!
77) Movie?: A Streetcar Named Desire, LOTR, Dead Man Walking, What About Bob?, Back to the Beach... It depends on the day.
78) Actor and actress?: Marlon Brando, and I don't think I have a favorite actress.
79) Beverage?: Cappuccino Italian Soda.
80) Music type?: Jimmy Buffett! Whatever kind of music that is.
81) Musical artist?: Jimmy Buffett.
82) Would you ever want to be on "Survivor"?: No, I'd be totally happy if my tombstone said, "She was never on tv." TV is a spectator sport to me.
83) How about "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"?: Same answer as 82.
84) "The Weakest Link"?: Same as 82.
85) Are you the weakest link?: I very well could be.
86) Are you a TV fan?: I used to watch it all the time and now I almost never do... I like it once in awhile if somebody else is picking the programming.
87) Are you an aspiring actor?: No way.
88) Are you a sports fan?: Nope.
89) Are you an aspiring athlete?: Haha.
90) Would you want to live in a big city?: Not permanently. I'd like to live in a bunch of places though, so if it was a city once in awhile I'd be okay with that.
91) If you answered "yes" to number 98, which city(ies) would you like to live in?: Doesn't matter.
92) Are you a perfectionist?: I'm about as much of a perfectionist as Ed Wood was.
93) Are you afraid of failure?: Eh... Things either work or they don't, but if you don't try you'll never know.
94) How about rejection?: Same as 93. I don't set myself up for it, though.
95) Michael Jordan didn't make one of his high school basketball teams. When Barbara Walters first started out in journalism, she was told that she would never make it in television. With these things in mind, are you still afraid of failure and rejection?: Well, do you know how many people were told those same things, and to this day we've never heard of them? There are exceptions to every rule... But you won't be one of them ;o)
96) Do you believe in fate, meaning that all of our lives are predetermined?: Well... I think we have free will, I don't think we're puppets. But I believe the outcome is known.
97) Do you think when we die, that's it?: Nope.
98) Are you religious?: I'm Catholic.
99) Are you a "holy roller"?: What on earth is a holy roller? I don't think I'm one of these...
100) Do you go to church?: Yes.
101) If so, how often?: Once a year.
102) When was the last time you went to church?: On Christmas eve.
103) Do you think church is boring?: Well, yeah... But that's good because then you can be quiet and ponder things. I don't like churches with guitars and pop music. I hate the idea that churches should try to be hip and keep up with pop culture. *cough* protestants! *cough*
104) Do you believe in God?: Yep.
105) Heaven?: Indeed.
106) Hell?: Yep.
107) Reincarnation?: Nah.
108) What about aliens?: Sure.
109) Do you think aliens really have abducted Earthlings?: No, but I'm still afraid of being abducted :o/
110) Do you play any sports?: I ride my bike but I wouldn't think of that as playing a sport...
111) Do you work out?: Yep, riding my bike and I jog.
112) If so, how often?: In theory I ride my bike five days a week and jog two days a week. It doesn't usually end up being quite this often though because I don't like jogging so I look for any excuse to get out of it, and then I put social stuff above the bike riding because I don't want to be one of those people ;o)
113) Do you work out to maintain good health or try to maintain a good body, or both?: Both, and because it's fun.
114) How fast can you run a mile?: I don't know, I don't time myself. I should do that sometime.
115) Do you drink a lot of bottled water?: Well, I have this thing in my house that gives me water for FREE! So no. (Well, I guess there is a water bill to pay so it's not completely free... But I have water bottles I fill up.)
116) Can you taste the difference between different kinds of water?: Yeah... Western Washington water is good and LA water is bad.
117) Do you play any musical instruments?: I can play very very very basic piano.
118) How about singing? Do you sing?: Well, I shouldn't.
119) Do you write music?: No.
120) What do you like to do when you're bored?: Ride my bike or hang out with friends.
121) Do you daydream?: Like the kid in A Christmas Story! ;o)
122) Have you ever been embarrassed in a class because you were daydreaming? (i.e., the teacher calling your name and you don't respond): I had teachers call on me and I didn't know where we were in the reading... But not cause I was daydreaming. It's so boring to listen to people who read one word a minute read out loud. You know, if "now me" was back in school I'd express righteous indignation at being expected to listen to that hogwash, and I wouldn't be even a little apologetic for not paying attention.
123) Do you ever get in trouble in school for your behavior?: In kindergarten I got in trouble for hiding in the coat closet with some boy in my class. Then I got suspended from beauty school :oD Does that not smack of white trash?! But anyway, other than that I never got in trouble.
124) Do you get low marks because of your behavior?: No, I never did.
125) Are you a class clown?: No way. I talk as little as possible in front of groups of people.
126) Have you ever had detention?: In elementary school for not finishing my homework.
127) Been sent to the principal's office?: Never in my life.

Help wanted: Outdoors beat is exciting new territory -

"Meth, alcohol and mental illness have been my beat for the past decade, so writing about the outdoors will be a big change. In a lot of ways, though, it's very familiar territory. When I came to Montana two decades ago, my first purchase was a prospector canoe. It's now in Dr. Scott Enloe's canoe hospital, because of an unwise decision on my part to float the Dearborn River too late in the season. I guess I was greedy. It was our second trip down the Dearborn this year."

"Shark Safaris, destined for the deep waters off Rhode Island Sound, are scheduled on Monday, Sept. 5, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Audubon Society's Shark Safaris are among the first-ever opportunities that the general public will have to see sharks in the wild. Until now, only offshore fishermen, scuba divers in shark cages, or occasional whale watch passengers have marveled at these magnificent animals - up close and personally. Few, if any such excursions - aimed specifically at shark observation - exist on the East Coast. No others are available in New England."
