"The Berkshires is a beautiful place, especially in the fall. I travel through them from upstate NY to CT and RI to see relatives. Whenever I can, I take the back roads, even though they are slower, because the view is definitely worth it! I was amazed to see how many museums there were listed on this site. I never knew there was this much to offer in the area. - Kelly Fahed

"The story of old Hangtown
really begins at Coloma, where James Marshall built a sawmill on the South Fork
of the American River for his employer John Sutter. On January 24, 1848,
Marshall discovered flecks of gold in the tail race of the mill, and when the
news spread, the great Gold Rush began.
Up ravines and over hills
miners and merchants, soldiers and seamen scrambled throughout the area. By the
summer of '48, more than a thousand men were working the ground at the new camp,
which soon placed Coloma as the initial rendezvous for the Argonauts."

"January, 2003
Downhill skiing is just the tip of the iceberg at most Eastern ski resorts. In recent years, snowboarding has become all the rage, leading to the evolution of specially groomed parks and even a new language of sorts: with its pipes, superpipes, berms and rails, to name a few. With tubing, the learning curve which essentially involves plopping onto an inflatable inner tube and letting gravity takes its course is next to zero. And cross country skiing lets families enjoy a slower, more relaxing pace (while still burning up the calories); and sleigh rides and snowmobiles allow riders to sit back and enjoy the Great Outdoors."
Trophy bass time is now -

"Action has been particularly good in North Carolina waters.
"If people want big fish, the time is now," said Marvin Huddleston of Roanoke, after returning from a recent trip to the Nags Head area.
Over six days Huddleston and his wife, Claudia, boated 11 stripers over 35 inches, along with plenty of smaller fish.
The pair fished primarily along the Bonner Bridge over the inlet, using live eels and metal spoons.
Trophy action remains slower than usual in the Chesapeake Bay. The past week produced only about a dozen striper entries in the Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament."
Let the regional ski season begin -

"But cold and snow? And up to 18 inches of it?
Last weekend kicked off the ski season throughout much of the South. Mother Nature did her part by offering up an extended cold spell after Thanksgiving, perfect for making snow. (Through last weekend, Snowshoe Mountain in West Virginia had logged 23 full days of snowmaking.)
She went above and beyond, though, tossing in the season's first winter storm. Hitting on opening weekend, it dumped from a few inches in the North Carolina mountains to 18 atop Snowshoe.
"It was wonderful," declared Frankee Love, director of communications at Wintergreen Resort in Virginia. "Our skiers loved it."

"For some of us, the season is already here. For others, it's so close you can taste it on your lips, feel it in your bones, and keep praying for some sort of sign from the Gods that yes, it will snow sometime this year. We here at TransWorld SNOWboarding feel that it is our duty to get you as amped as possible on what lies ahead this season. That's one of the many reasons why you need to make sure you're all signed up to be eligible to compete in the TransWorld SNOWboarding Trans-Am!
The schedule is finalized."

"Softness
Advances in fabric and fiber technology mean that softness is no
longer a luxury, but a functional requirement of good long underwear
Moisture wicking
Your long underwear should wick perspiration away from the body to the
surface of the garment to evaporate. The high-energy, high-perspiration nature
of snowbaording make this property particularly important for this sport."

"Impressions: SSX Tricky
No Run DMC in Japan? Come on! Billy takes to the snow and checks out EA's Snowboarding title. Should you wait to play 1080 GC...or should you nab Tricky?
Written: 08/25/2001
Since there's no release date for 1080 GC, if you're looking for a snowboarding title for GameCube, EA's SSX Tricky is going to be your only choice at the US launch. I've played the PS2 version a couple of times and was pretty impressed, and this is pretty much more of the same. Not that that's a bad thing.
Supposedly this game is 90% complete, but it didn't look like it."
