"You know it's cold when moisture freezes on your eyelashes and perspiration forms into tiny ice balls on your headband. It is so cold that you hold glove-covered hands over your mouth as you breathe, trying to warm the air because it actually hurts to inhale. Even footsteps sound different at these temperatures, each stride emitting a sharp crunch or snap in the snow.
It was minus 20 degrees in mid-February, and the eight Scouts of Troop 610 from Hamden, Conn., had never experienced anything this extreme."

"West Virginia has become known as an outdoor playground with challenging and diverse terrain. Mountain bikers and whitewater rafters flock here during the temperate months to take advantage of its natural wonders. But when the Mountain State turns cold, a handful of resorts are ready to serve up some wild and wonderful fun and excitement for skiers, snowboarders and snow-lovers in general.
Sprawled atop one of West Virginia's tallest peaks in the Allegheny Mountains of Pocahontas County is Snowshoe Mountain Resort. Although it is the largest ski area in the Southeast, there are features other than size that set it apart."

Paul Vogelzang has heard all the stereotypes about bond investing. Bonds are boring. Bonds are too conservative for college students. Bonds aren’t as sexy as stocks.
“Bonds may be boring, but they are safe,” counters Vogelzang, executive director of education for the U.S. Treasury’s Bureau of Public Debt, in Washington, D.C. “Safety really matters to people these days. People like the fact that bonds are backed by the U.S. government and the U.S. Treasury."
