"Josh Baldwin, a 1996 grad of Huntington East High School, has lived in Europe and different parts of the U.S. Now, he has come home to WV where he is publisher of the Greenbrier Valley Quarterly, a magazine that focuses on arts, culture and tourism in the Greenbrier Valley. There are two types of people in this world, according to Josh Baldwin: those who want to live at the beach and vacation in the mountains, and those who want to live in the mountains and vacation at the beach. Baldwin classifies himself in the latter category, which is one of the reasons why he moved from Wilmington, N.C., to Lewisburg earlier this year."

"Things were simpler back in the old days. We had three TV networks, one kind of lettuce, and a handful of car companies. To see a movie you had to go to the theater. When you voted, you had to choose from just two political parties. (Oh, wait, we're still stuck with that one . . .) And when you went on a cruise, your choices in port were pretty limited too. "Five or ten years ago you got to a port and basically you had a bus tour, a beach tour, a bike tour, and a snorkel tour to choose from, and that's about it," says Glen Dean, manager of shore excursion pre-sales for Carnival Cruise Line."

"Red River to host cycling events Special to The Range Red River will host two cycling events the weekend of Sept. 10-11. The 17th annual Top of the World Mountain Bike Race, in the Enchanted Forest Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Area located two miles east of Red River on State Road 38, will be held Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. The five and one-half-mile loop through the forest includes grueling climbs, sharp turns and a steep downhill finish. The number or loops depends on your level of expertise, but regardless, you can expect your adrenaline to flow and mud to fly on this NORBA-sanctioned event."

Broken wrist has Trebon benched and bored -

"After breaking his right wrist in a pileup during stage 4 of the International Tour de 'Toona on July 28, NORBA star Ryan Trebon (Kona-Les Gets) has spent the past week scouring tiny Corvallis, Oregon - his current residence - for something to do. And for a guy who's used to training four hours a day and town-hopping from race to race, that's not any fun at all. "It's weird going from riding my bike every day and being super active to just having to sit around the house. Jesus, it is so boring," said Trebon. "I can't stand it."

The Charleston Gazette - Editorials -

"Last week, President Bush sided with evolution opponents by declaring that America's public schools should teach "intelligent design," which postulates that a vast mind created the universe and all its contents. The Independent of London published a Thursday front-page report labeled "Mythology in the White House." And The Financial Times of London printed an editorial titled "Making a monkey out of America." Recounting the 1925 Scopes Monkey Trial, the editorial said "it is hard to know whether to laugh or cry" over the president's support of forces that want to ban the teaching of evolution."

"Nate Galpin is starting his competitive boardercross season early, making the most of every opportunity to better his Olympic chances on the snowboard circuit. Ketchum's Galpin, 29, is surging ahead on that plan after winning the South American Chilean Boardercross Championships this past weekend at Valle Nevado, Chile. The Andean resort has been friendly to Sun Valley boarders in recent years; Valle Nevado, a French-designed resort 37 miles east of Santiago, is where Graham Watanabe won his first World Cup snowboard event, nine months after crashing and breaking his pelvis."
